Melvyn Bragg

Because he’s worth it.

In this year’s edition of XCity, we speak to Melvyn Bragg about spending 50 years at the forefront of cultural broadcast, and what the advent of internet journalism means for the future of arts programming. Of course, the first port of call when speaking to Lord Melvyn, as any good hack knows, is his incredible hair.

Melvyn Bragg’s lustrous mop has become a surreal obsession for journalists and interviewers. The Spectator once described it as “hypnotic” and as if a “King Charles spaniel had settled on his head”. Here are four more famous journalist hair-cuts:

Cold, hard edged and impenetrable – Anna Wintour’s hair is even more imposing than the woman herself.

The head of the eponymous digital news empire may have renounced her Republican tendencies years ago, but this is still a classic WASP bob.

Late of The Independentand current of Q and The Quietus, Price’s alarming split mohawk/double fin seems an ideal aesthetic for Brighton’s most notable New Romantic.
