Drones have increasingly been hitting the headlines over the last few years irresponsible flying has been alleged to have put aircraft in danger. Experts have called for the law to be tightened and a recent government consultation on the issue is due to make recommendations soon.

But as well as being the subject of news stories, drones are also part of the growing technology toolkit available to journalists. Footage taken from drones, such as this video of the 2015/16 flooding, can add a valuable new dimension to visual stories. But with expertise in the safe use of the technology limited, freelance operators are increasingly in demand.

XCity Plus went to Elevate Studio in Surrey to meet Dan James and Paul Wingfield who supply aerial footage to clients including theme parks, websites and newspapers as they flew their brand new Matrice 600 Pro drone.
