As the Rio Olympics coincides with the 40th anniversary of City’s Journalism Department, XCity has collaborated with some top sports photographers to collect their favourite images from past Olympics.

We all remember Usain Bolt’s arm stretch, Kelly Holmes winning gold and Mo Farah’s astounding performance at London 2012, but here are some snaps you might have missed over the years:
